NSCDC Boss Commends High Level Of Security In Southeast, Describes State Police As An Innovation

The Commandant General of the Nigeria Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Prof Ahmed Abubakar Audi, has described the high level of peace and stability in Abia State as very commendable, stressing the need for other states across the country to follow suit.

Speaking during a five-day Strategic Capacity Building Workshop on Technological Advancement in Security Management, Intelligence, Investment, Prosecution, Threat Assessment, Use of Drone and Wireless Communication Network organised by the Abia State Command of the NSCDC in Umuahia on Tuesday, Prof Audi lauded Governor Alex Otti for encouraging and promoting issues that enhance safety and stability in the state.

According to him, the collaboration of security agencies in the state, which is being harnessed by Governor Otti, has remarkably improved security in Abia. He therefore reaffirmed the unwavering commitment to the people of the state and Nigerians as a whole by the NSCDC.

“As officers of the Corps, we must remain steadfast in fulfilling our statutory mandate of protection of critical national assets and infrastructure, supporting internal security and contributing meaningfully to national development”, Audi said.

Audi, who was represented at the event by Dr Ahmed Gandi, the Zonal Commander, Zone 5, covering Abia and Imo States, described the workshop as one aimed at enhancing professional growth, operational excellence and strengthening the Corps’ collective capacity to protect lives, maintain order and the nation with integrity.

The workshop, which is being sponsored by the Abia State government, is aimed at equipping and updating officers of the NSCDC in the state on practical skills that would make them have deeper insight into modern security practice in addition to enhancing their communication capability, among others.

In an interview with journalists later, Gandi described the Federal Government’s proposed State Police as an innovation. He pointed out that the Commandant and other sister security agencies would not jump to conclusions on how to work with its officers until the project finally comes to fruition.

In his welcome address, the Abia State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Mr Chukwuemeka Odimba, noted that security across the world is changing at an unprecedented pace, adding that criminals are increasingly exploiting the emerging technologies, digital platforms and sophisticated communication systems to perpetrate crimes.

In his words, “As security professionals, we must remain proactive, adaptable, and technologically equipped to effectively counter these evolving threats.

“The workshop has therefore been carefully designed to expose our personnel to contemporary security strategies and modern operational tools in the area of technological advancement in security management, intelligence gathering and analysis, criminal investigation, effective prosecution, threat assessment, drone technology and wireless communication networks”.

In his comment, the Special to the Governor Security, Commander Macdonald Ubah (rtd), lauded the NSCDC in Abia State for effectively assisting the state government in its war against insecurity.
