NSCDC dismisses allegations of fraud, economic sabotage in Akwa Ibom command

Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Akwa Ibom State Command, has dismissed reports alleging its involvement in financial impropriety, economic sabotage and victimisation of staff who have opposing views in the command.

A report had emerged on social media alleging that the state Commandant, Geraldine Abetianbe, is complicit in financial misconduct in the command and has strained the cordial working relationship with other sister security agencies in the state.

Denying the claims, the command’s Public Relations Officer, SC Friday Ekerete, on Tuesday, described them as false, malicious and a figment of the writer’s imagination.

On alleged financial impropriety over staff welfare scheme, the PRO said “the scheme in question existed before the Commandant’s assumption of office in December, 2025, saying, ”since it was about staff welfare, it was expanded to include all personnel through a unanimous decision taken by all at a muster parade held at the State Command Headquarters.

“This was followed by the appointment of an EXCO comprising representatives of all ranks/levels right at the parade ground. Deductions were made from all staff, including the State Commandant.

“‎However, as soon as implementation of the scheme started, some members kicked against it, and refunds were made instantly, and the scheme was abolished.”

The Spokesperson also dismissed the allegation that the command had refused to distribute tech operational system packs and drones it received, saying that they would only be disbursed for use after resource persons from the National Headquarters have successfully trained personnel on how to operate them, especially to enhance security operations.

”Since they are systems configured for security use, due process is being followed in line with Corps policy in this regard,” he explained.

Ekerete also wondered how allegations of victimization and appointment bias would come in, saying that NSCDC is a federal organization and personnel deployment reflects the federal character principle.   He stressed that strategic positions like Head of Anti-Vandal, Operations, PGC, Solid Minerals, Store, 2iC of the Command, Medical, Armoury and so on at the State Command Headquarters are all occupied by qualified and competent Akwa Ibomites.

”This can be independently verified. They were appointed into these positions based on merit, qualifications and experience, same as other Nigerians heading other Departments and Units at the State Headquarters.

‎There is no iota of truth in the claim that the relationship with sister security agencies in the state is fractured.

‎We wish to state unequivocally that there is a symbiotic and extremely cordial working relationship between the NSCDC and all sister security agencies in Akwa Ibom State.” The spokesperson said.
