The Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) has provided prosthetic devices to 74 beneficiaries who suffered various degrees of work related injuries, as part of its rehabilitation and compensation support programme.
The intervention was unveiled during the presentation of the final report of the latest phase of the Prosthesis Provision Exercise in Abuja, where the Fund said the beneficiaries had undergone assessment, fitting, training and evaluation before being discharged.
Speaking at the event, the NSITF Managing Director, Barrister Oluwaseun Faleye, represented by the Executive Director, Operations, Mojisola Alli Macaulay, commended the commitment of prosthesis providers, beneficiaries, employers and the monitoring team, describing their cooperation as key to the success of the programme.
Faleye said the providers also showed flexibility by addressing special medical requirements, including the provision of a hip disarticulation prosthesis for a beneficiary whose condition required a different intervention from the initially anticipated above knee prosthesis.
He explained that the Claims and Compensation Department of the Fund monitored the exercise from its commencement in April 2026 until completion, ensuring that all approved beneficiaries received the required support.
“Following the interim report submitted earlier, I am pleased to announce that the prosthesis provision exercise has been successfully completed. All beneficiaries identified under the approved programme were assessed, fitted with suitable prostheses, trained on their usage and discharged after satisfactory evaluation,” he said.
The NSITF boss added that beneficiaries who could not participate due to challenges such as inability to establish contact, failure to attend after notification or death were replaced with individuals from a supplementary list to ensure the completion of the exercise.
The prosthetic devices provided included eight above knee prostheses, one hip disarticulation prosthesis, 11 below knee prostheses, 12 below elbow prostheses, five above elbow prostheses, one trans humeral prosthesis and 40 silicon partial hand prostheses.
According to the Fund, all beneficiaries scheduled for the programme were successfully attended to and discharged after completing the required rehabilitation process.
Also speaking, the General Manager, Claims and Compensation, Nkiru Ede-Ogunnaike, said beneficiaries went through various stages, including medical assessment, measurement, fabrication of prostheses, fitting, gait and functional training, evaluation and final discharge.
She noted that the beneficiaries expressed satisfaction with the services provided, adding that completion documents, warranty details and satisfaction forms had been properly documented.
“The programme achieved its objectives by improving the mobility, functionality and overall quality of life of beneficiaries while reinforcing the Fund’s mandate of providing rehabilitation support to employees who suffer work related disabilities,” she said.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Solomon Sunday, a staff member of Zodoson Industries, Abia State, expressed appreciation to NSITF, saying the intervention had restored hope and confidence among accident victims.
He explained that many beneficiaries experienced emotional distress and uncertainty after their injuries before receiving support from the Fund.
According to him, the prostheses had enabled them to regain independence, acquire new skills and pursue opportunities to earn a living.
“We are deeply grateful to NSITF for what they have done for us. The support has changed our stories and given us hope for a better future,” Sunday said.
