Otu Celebrates Kanu Agabi at 80, Describes Him as Cross River’s Priceless Gift to Nigeria

Cross River State Governor, Senator Bassey Edet Otu, has paid glowing tribute to one of Nigeria’s most distinguished legal figures, Chief Kanu Godwin Agabi, CON, SAN, on the occasion of his 80th birthday, describing him as “Cross River’s priceless gift to Nigeria” and one of the nation’s finest legal minds.

The governor made the remarks during a visit to the elder statesman’s residence in Abuja to celebrate his milestone birthday, where he commended Agabi’s decades of outstanding service to the legal profession, public service and national development.

According to Governor Otu, Agabi’s life and career have been marked by exceptional brilliance, impeccable integrity, unwavering patriotism and an enduring commitment to justice, democratic governance and nation-building.

He said the Bekwarra-born legal icon has brought immense honour to Cross River State and Nigeria through his exemplary contributions to the country’s legal and constitutional development.

Otu noted that Agabi’s distinguished record as a former Senator of the Federal Republic, two-time Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, and one of Nigeria’s most accomplished Senior Advocates of Nigeria has secured him a permanent place in the nation’s history.

The governor described the octogenarian as a shining example of scholarship, excellence and selfless service, adding that his accomplishments have become enduring reference points in Nigeria’s jurisprudence.

“On behalf of the Government and the peace-loving people of Cross River State, I heartily congratulate this distinguished statesman, eminent jurist, Senior Advocate of Nigeria, former Attorney General and Minister of Justice of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and accomplished parliamentarian on the joyous occasion of your 80th birthday,” Otu said.

He further described Agabi as “one of the finest ornaments of the legal profession and an enduring source of pride to Bekwarra, Cross River State and our great nation.”

Reflecting on Agabi’s illustrious legal career, the governor said the senior lawyer’s profound intellect, eloquence at the Bar and steadfast commitment to the rule of law have continued to inspire generations of lawyers, judges, academics and public servants across Nigeria.
