Troops of the Joint Task Force North East, Operation Hadin Kai, have repelled multiple coordinated infiltration attempts by suspected ISWAP terrorists across parts of Borno State, forcing the insurgents to retreat after fierce engagements.
According to a statement on Friday by the Acting Military Information Officer of Operation Hadin Kai, Capt. Mohammed Goni, the attacks occurred between 12:20 a.m. and 2:30 a.m. on July 10, when the terrorists attempted to infiltrate Muna Garage, Shuwari Village and the Ajilari Cross axis with the aim of gaining access to Maiduguri metropolis.
Goni said the troops, aided by early warning mechanisms, detected the advancing terrorists and engaged them from multiple directions with effective firepower, successfully frustrating all attempts to breach the city’s defences.
He added that troops also foiled separate infiltration attempts at Miringa and Dutsen Kura in Buratai.
According to him, during the pursuit of fleeing terrorists at Miringa, a Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicle triggered an Improvised Explosive Device (IED). However, no casualties were recorded among the troops, and the operational situation remains stable.
The military spokesman said the terrorists, overwhelmed by the troops’ swift tactical response, abandoned their mission and retreated in disarray across all the attack routes.
He disclosed that troops are currently conducting clearance and exploitation operations to track down the fleeing insurgents, consolidate operational gains, dominate the affected areas and prevent further threats to surrounding communities.
Operation Hadin Kai reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining offensive operations aimed at denying terrorists freedom of movement and protecting lives and property across the North East.
The military also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies to support ongoing counter-terrorism operations.
