The Oyo State Government on Tuesday took delivery of its long-awaited security surveillance aircraft at the Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport, Ibadan.
The aircraft is expected to support aerial surveillance, intelligence gathering and rapid response to security threats across the state and adjoining areas.
The delivery comes months after Governor Seyi Makinde announced plans to acquire modern aerial surveillance platforms to strengthen the fight against insecurity, including kidnapping, banditry and other criminal activities.
The aircraft as gathered will work in synergy with existing security agencies, the Oyo State Security Network Agency, codenamed Amotekun Corps, and other intelligence units to monitor forests, border communities and identified flashpoints.
The acquisition is part of the state government’s broader investment in security infrastructure, which has also included the procurement of operational vehicles, communication equipment and logistics support for security agencies.
Officials said the new aerial capability is expected to enhance real-time monitoring and coordination among security outfits operating in the state.
