Police Investigate Suspected Suicide of Cleric in Akwa Ibom

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has commenced an investigation into the death of Pastor Etetim Udo, Founder and General Overseer of Power in the Word of God for the World Ministries in Oron. The Command’s spokesperson, Timfon John, disclosed this in a statement issued in Uyo on Saturday, saying the investigation followed a distress report received on Thursday, July 23, 2026.

According to the statement, a resident alerted the police after noticing an unusual gathering at the church premises. The deceased’s children reportedly informed the resident that their father had allegedly taken his own life.

Police operatives were subsequently deployed to the scene, where the cleric was found unresponsive. Investigators processed the scene, took photographs and recovered relevant exhibits for forensic examination.The statement said the deceased was taken to a hospital, where a medical doctor confirmed his death. His remains were deposited at a mortuary pending an autopsy.The police said preliminary findings indicated a suspected suicide but stressed that investigations were ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the death.

The Commissioner of Police, Baba Azare, assured the public that the investigation would be thorough, impartial and professionally conducted.The Command also appealed to anyone with relevant information to assist investigators and urged the public to avoid spreading unverified information or speculation that could interfere with the investigation.
