Prince Harry Chose Secret Island Over Royal Paradise For Family Escape
Prince Harry has reportedly introduced Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet to a different side of Scotland instead of the royal retreat he once called “simply paradise.”
While the Duke of Sussex has yet to take his children to Balmoral, he and Meghan Markle are said to have quietly enjoyed a family getaway on a secluded private island earlier this month.
The trip also reportedly included meaningful family stops during the Sussexes’ visit to the U.K.
5Although Balmoral remains one of the places most closely associated with Prince Harry’s childhood, reports claim he introduced Archie and Lilibet to a different corner of Scotland during the family’s recent trip.
According to a report from the Daily Mail, the Sussexes stayed on Tanera Mor, an 800-acre private island off Scotland’s northwest coast that offers a level of privacy rarely found elsewhere.
The island, purchased in 2017 by billionaire hedge fund executive Ian Wace, has reportedly undergone an extensive transformation, with around £100 million ($134.5 million) invested in restoring its landscape, homes, and traditional industries.
Harry is also believed to have visited the island before, making it a familiar destination for the Duke. Beyond its seclusion, Tanera Mor also reflects causes he has long championed.
Through the Taigh Mor Foundation, the island welcomes members of the armed forces and emergency services, who contribute to conservation work, building restoration, gardening, fishing, and other community projects during their stays.
Prince Harry’s Friendship With The Island’s Owner Spans Years
5The reported getaway is also linked to one of Prince Harry’s longstanding personal friendships.
Wace has reportedly known both the 41-year-old and his brother Prince William for years, while his former wife, model Saffron Aldridge, became friendly with Meghan after she moved to the U.K.
The connection remained visible following Harry and Meghan’s 2018 wedding, when Wace and Aldridge accompanied the couple to Cirque du Soleil’s charity performance at London’s Royal Albert Hall in 2019.
Although the duo have since divorced, reports suggest they have remained on good terms.
Their longstanding friendship with the Sussexes, coupled with the island’s charitable mission, has fueled speculation that Tanera Mor offered the family both familiarity and privacy during the trip.
Prince Harry’s UK Visit Included Quiet Family Moments
5The reported island stay was only one stop during the Sussexes’ time in the U.K.
Reports claim Prince Harry and Meghan first visited Althorp, the Spencer family estate, where they privately paid tribute to Princess Diana by laying flowers at her gravesite.
The family also reportedly spent time with King Charles and Queen Camilla at Highgrove, where they are said to have shared tea during the visit.
Despite widespread interest in the trip, the Duke and Duchess chose not to address the reports publicly.
When asked about the alleged itinerary, a spokesperson simply said, “This is not something we would comment on.”
Prince Harry’s Return To London Was Overshadowed By Palace Confusion
5Prince Harry’s latest trip to the U.K. also reignited tensions between the Duke and the royal household after conflicting accounts emerged over an invitation to stay at Buckingham Palace during his London visit.
As reported by PEOPLE, King Charles offered Prince Harry accommodation at Buckingham Palace after the latter lost the use of Frogmore Cottage as a U.K. residence.
According to the Duke’s spokesperson, Harry accepted the invitation after arranging alternative private security for his visit, since he no longer received automatic police protection in the U.K.
However, the spokesperson claimed the offer was “withdrawn at the last moment,” describing the move as “disappointing” and questioning why it was rescinded after being accepted.
Palace sources strongly disputed that version of events, insisting Prince Harry initially declined the invitation and only reversed course after the deadline had passed, leaving insufficient time to prepare accommodation and staff.
Prince Harry’s Next Return To Britain Could Look Very Different
5Prince Harry’s accommodation dispute may not define his future visits to the U.K. after all.
Just weeks after conflicting accounts overshadowed his most recent stay in London, a new report claimed King Charles intends to once again offer the Duke of Sussex a room at Buckingham Palace when he returns to the U.K. in September.
According to PEOPLE, the gesture followed Harry’s recent reunion with the King, where Charles reportedly saw his grandchildren in person for the first time since 2022.
Sources told the outlet the previous accommodation confusion proved “quite stressful” for everyone involved, prompting efforts to avoid a repeat.
Prince Harry is expected to attend the WellChild Awards during the trip and is reportedly expected to accept the Palace accommodation well in advance.
