Rivers Police Advocate Regular Health Checks, Launch ‘Know Your Number’ Campaign

Port Harcourt – The Rivers State Police Command has called on its personnel and members of the public to prioritise regular medical check-ups as it launched the “Know Your Number” Campaign to promote preventive healthcare and early detection of health conditions.

The campaign, driven by the Rivers Police Medical Services in collaboration with Healthlink and Bridge Initiative and the Police Health Maintenance Organisation (Police HMO), is designed to encourage routine health screening as a means of preventing and managing diseases before they become life-threatening.

According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer in Rivers State, ASP Grace Iringe-Koko Agabe, the campaign commenced at the Command Headquarters on Moscow Road, Port Harcourt, with participants benefiting from free screenings for hypertension, haemoglobin levels, urinalysis, and other vital health assessments.

Health education sessions on healthy lifestyles and disease prevention also formed part of the exercise.

Speaking during the flag-off, the Commissioner of Police, Rivers State Command, CP Olugbenga Adewole Adepoju, represented by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, DCP Alhasan Kawu Yahaya, reiterated the Command’s commitment to the welfare of its personnel and the public.

He stressed that routine medical examinations are indispensable to maintaining a healthy, vigilant, and productive police workforce capable of delivering effective service.

Adepoju also applauded the Rivers Police Medical Services, Healthlink and Bridge Initiative, and the Police HMO for their collaboration, describing the initiative as timely and impactful.

He noted that the campaign reflects the welfare-centred agenda of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, whose leadership places premium on the health and well-being of officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force.

The Command further urged residents to embrace preventive healthcare by undergoing regular medical checks, noting that early diagnosis remains key to healthier and more productive living.
