Nigerian celebrity fashion designer Veekee James has shared a touching account of her mother’s devotion and the difficult sacrifices she made after the death of her husband.
In a recent interview, the designer spoke emotionally about growing up without her father and watching her mother dedicate her entire life to raising her children rather than pursuing another relationship.
Veekee explained that she has never witnessed her mother date any man since her father passed away. She described her as a deeply committed parent who chose her children above every other consideration.
According to her, not long after her father’s death, their pastor asked her mother whether she planned to remarry. However, she declined, insisting that her priority was to care for her children.
“I’ve never seen my mom date any man before. Since I lost my dad, my mom has never slept out of the house if it’s not night vigil. When my dad passed, my pastor asked if she wanted to remarry, and she said no. She wanted to take care of us, her kids,” Veekee said.
The fashion entrepreneur also recalled the struggles her mother endured while living in Ajegunle, where she worked relentlessly as a tailor to provide for the family. She took on numerous sewing jobs to ensure her children were well cared for despite the challenges they faced.
Veekee revealed that her mother was the person who introduced her to tailoring and also taught her important life principles that have shaped her character and career.
“My mom hustled so hard in Ajegunle. She made clothes for so many people. She taught me tailoring and advised me not to follow men,” she added.
Reflecting on her upbringing, Veekee James credited her mother’s resilience, discipline, and strong work ethic for the success she enjoys today. She said the lessons she learned from her mother continue to guide and inspire her journey in life and business.
