A man was allegedly subjected to a humiliating form of punishment after he was accused of stealing several bunches of plantain in an incident that has sparked widespread reactions on social media.
According to reports and a Viral Video, the suspect was caught by residents shortly after he was allegedly seen taking bunches of plantain from a farm without the owner’s permission. Watch video
Witnesses claimed that members of the community confronted the man and recovered the allegedly stolen plantains. Instead of immediately handing him over to law enforcement authorities, some of those present reportedly forced him to eat the raw plantains as a form of public punishment.
The video shows the suspect surrounded by a crowd while being compelled to consume pieces of the uncooked plantain. Several people could be heard mocking him as others recorded the incident on their mobile phones.
