Water scarcity has continued to affect some rural communities in Kano State, with residents in several villages reportedly spending days without a regular supply of water. A visit to some rural areas by our correspondent found that the shortage had created difficulties for residents, prompting calls for intervention from the Kano State Government.
A resident of Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area, Malam Abubakar Isah, said his community had gone for more than a week without a regular water supply. He said residents had been relying on a solar-powered water system, which he described as inadequate for the growing population and had resulted in overcrowding at the facility.
Isah acknowledged the efforts of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to improve water supply in urban and rural communities but called for stronger measures to address the persistent shortages. He also urged the government to investigate factors contributing to disruptions in water supply and ensure that water projects serve their intended purposes.
Residents in communities along the Kano-Bichi Road also appealed for urgent intervention, saying the shortage becomes more severe during periods without rainfall. They said residents are often forced to travel considerable distances in search of water, increasing the burden on households.The residents urged the state government to prioritise sustainable water supply solutions to improve access to potable water in affected communities.
