Socio-political activist Aisha Yesufu has questioned why Peter Obi continues to face repeated television interviews while, in her view, other leading political figures are rarely subjected to the same level of public questioning.
She made the remarks on Monday in a video shared by Advocacy For Good Governance on Facebook while reacting to Obi’s interview with Channels Television’s Seun Okinbaloye aired on Sunday.

She noted that public interviews should not focus mainly on Obi when Nigerians deserve to hear directly from others seeking or holding power.
Even as she acknowledged that Obi has regularly appeared to answer questions, she said she found little that was new in the latest interview and wondered why similar sessions were not held with other political figures.
Calls for equal public scrutiny
Yesufu said she watched the interview expecting fresh questions but felt the discussion revisited issues Obi had answered several times before.
She said she could not identify any question that had not already been asked in previous interviews or public appearances.
“I don’t think there’s any question that Seun asked Peter Obi that has not already been asked,” she said.
She maintained that the repeated questioning of Obi contrasted with what she sees as limited public scrutiny of other political figures.
Referring to President Bola Tinubu, who, she claimed, rigged his way through to become the Governor of Lagos State, she said he was not facing the same type of direct television interviews or tough questioning.
She said, “More pressure is being put on Peter Obi for him to be the one, you know, to come out and talk to the people . . . but other candidates, nothing is being said about them.
They are not coming out to do the interview. So looking at someone like Mr Bola Ahmed, the former Governor of Lagos State who rigged the election and got himself sworn in, nobody is asking him tough questions. He’s not in front of the camera.
He’s not being judged. He’s going about freely doing his own business. And yet the one person who cares, who has been out there, who is speaking to the people is the one that more and more is needed from him . . .”
Yesufu said different questions should be asked and that other political leaders should also appear before the public to explain their positions on national issues.
Interview repeats old issues
Yesufu also referred to reactions that followed Obi’s remarks about Muslims who served during his administration as governor of Anambra State.
She said some misunderstood his comments by claiming he said all his commissioners were Muslims.
She maintained that Obi was referring to commissioners of police who served during his tenure and noted that he had explained the issue on several occasions.
Beyond that clarification, Yesufu said the interview largely revisited familiar topics rather than introducing new areas of public interest.
She urged interviewers to engage more political conversations and subject other political figures to similar questioning instead of returning to the same issues with Obi.
