Police Search For Man After Alleged Failure To Honour Invitation Over Same-Sex Relationship Investigation In Oyo

The Oyo State Police Command says it is searching for a man invited for questioning over an alleged breach of the Same-Sex Marriage (Prohibition) Act, 2014, after he reportedly failed to appear before investigators.

According to a police invitation letter dated August 25, 2025, Mr. Akeem Hassan Abiodun was directed to report to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Iyaganku, Ibadan, in connection with an investigation into allegations of involvement in a same-sex relationship.

The letter, addressed to Mr. Hassan of Plot 8, Fafunmilayo Street, Iwo Road, Ibadan, stated that police were investigating allegations that he engaged in a homosexual relationship with Mr. Oyebode Oyeniran.

Police further alleged that the relationship resulted in an attack on the residence of the Oyeniran family by hoodlums, an incident they claimed contributed to the death of Mrs. Oyeniran. According to the invitation, the matter was reported to the police on August 21, 2025, by Mr. Oyeniran.

The invitation instructed Mr. Hassan Abiodun to appear before ASP Stephen Julius at the State CID, Iyaganku, on or before August 25, 2025, for questioning. It stated that the investigation concerned allegations of acts said to be contrary to the Same-Sex Marriage (Prohibition) Act, 2014.

The police also warned in the letter that failure to honour the invitation could attract further legal action.

Police sources said Mr. Hassan Abiodun did not report as directed and that efforts to locate him have so far been unsuccessful. The command is therefore said to be on the lookout for him as investigations continue.

As of the time of this report, Mr. Abiodun’s whereabouts remain unknown, and he has not publicly responded to the allegations contained in the police invitation.

The allegations against Mr. Abiodun have not been tested in court, and no formal charges have been announced. The Oyo State Police Command has stated that the investigation remains ongoing.
