Tinubu: Infrastructure Must Reach Satellite Towns, Rural Communities As FCT Ends 31-Day Project Commissioning

ABUJA – President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to extending quality infrastructure beyond Abuja’s city centre to satellite towns and rural communities, declaring that inclusive development remains a cornerstone of the Renewed Hope Agenda.

Tinubu, who was represented by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, spoke on Friday while commissioning the reconstructed Arab/Gbazango Road in Kubwa, Bwari Area Council, marking the conclusion of the Federal Capital Territory Administration’s 31-day project commissioning programme to commemorate the administration’s third anniversary.

The President said the completion of the road reflected his government’s determination to translate campaign promises into tangible projects that directly improve the lives of Nigerians.

“This ceremony is not just about opening a road. It is a practical validation of our Renewed Hope Agenda. We promised to transform governance into visible, impactful results, and this completed infrastructure stands as a testament to that solemn pledge,” Tinubu said.

He noted that residents of Kubwa and adjoining communities had for years endured poor road conditions, flooding and severe traffic congestion, which hampered economic activities and daily life.

According to him, the reconstructed Arab/Gbazango Road has transformed a major source of hardship into an economic corridor that will enhance mobility, improve security and stimulate commerce.

“Our developmental vision for the Federal Capital Territory is complete inclusion. We refuse to restrict development to the high-brow city centre of Abuja. The suburbs, the outskirts and the satellite towns deserve the exact same high-quality infrastructure,” he said.

Tinubu added that the road would reduce travel time, improve access to the Outer Northern Expressway, facilitate the movement of agricultural produce, support local businesses and strengthen emergency response services.

He also commended the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, for accelerating infrastructure delivery across the territory, describing his leadership as proof that purposeful governance delivers visible results.

The President further praised the contractors for delivering quality work and urged residents to protect the infrastructure from vandalism, assuring Nigerians that his administration would continue to provide critical roads, schools, hospitals and other public infrastructure across the six Area Councils of the FCT and the country.

Earlier, FCT Minister Barr Nyesom Wike described the commissioning as the climax of an unprecedented infrastructure drive that commenced on June 9 and ended on July 17 without any major incident.

He said the FCT Administration successfully commissioned and flagged off projects throughout the period, describing the exercise as the first of its kind in Nigeria.

“It is unprecedented in the history of this country for a President to commission and flag off projects continuously for 28 days. The joy on the faces of the people shows that governance is about commitment and making people happy,” Wike said.

The minister said residents of Kubwa had experienced the direct impact of good governance through the transformation of a road that had long hindered commercial activities.

“If you ask the people of this area today, they will tell you that government has finally come home. This is what we call the impact of positive governance,” he added.

Wike disclosed that more than 50 projects had been commissioned since Tinubu assumed office, maintaining that performance remained the strongest response to political opposition.

“If you call Tinubu today, he will show you his report card. That is what governance is all about,” he said.

Responding to a request by residents for improved water supply, Wike directed the Executive Secretary of the FCTA to immediately address the challenge.

“Go home and give your people water,” he directed.

He also announced that the FCT Administration would embark on another round of project commissioning before the next round of national political activities, with at least 10 additional projects expected to be completed before the end of the year.

In her remarks, the Minister of State for the FCT, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, attributed Abuja’s ongoing transformation to President Tinubu’s leadership and sustained support for the Renewed Hope Agenda.

She described the reconstructed Arab/Gbazango Road as one of several infrastructure projects improving mobility, economic activities and residents’ quality of life across the Federal Capital Territory.

Mahmoud also commended Wike for his result-driven leadership and urged residents to protect public infrastructure to ensure its long-term benefits.
