Yoruba Leaders of Thought (YLT), a pro-Yoruba group, has lauded President Bola Tinubu, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo state and security agencies for rescuing pupils and teachers abducted from schools in the Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
The group in a statement signed by Bayo Aina, its National Secretary, described the operation which involved all security agencies, vigilantes and the Amotekun security outfit as a reflection of the good work the Nigerian Armed Forces have been doing to make the country safe in the face of the escalated activities of bandits across the nation.
“It is heartwarming that our security agencies were able to rescue these children and their teachers who have been in captivity for over 54days. This singular action has made us proud of our military and further assured Nigerians that we have a military that is capable of protecting lives and properties in the country. We lauded their effort, just as we commend President Bola Tinubu for his leadership qualities,” the group said.
It commiserated with the families of late Mr. Michael Oyedokun and other security officers who lost their lives during the operation.
The Prince Tajudeen Olusi led group, said it is heartwarming that no ransom was paid for the release of the abductees which further showed that the security agencies operation was top notch.
He called on the federal government to immortalize Mr. Michael Oyedokun and the army officer, Lt Isaac, who lost their lives during the operation.
The Yoruba leaders said the multifaceted approach employed by the military in rescuing the abductees should be used in ensuring the release of other abductees in other states of the federation.
It called on the government to investigate the involvement of foreigners in various crimes across the country, noting that these foreigners were the source of weapons used by bandits.
