Yobe State’s ₦28.5bn Agricultural Initiative Receives Praise From Cattle Rearers Association

The Kulen Allah Cattle Rearers Association of Nigeria (KACRAN) has expressed strong support for Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni, in light of his recent approval of a ₦28.5 billion Agricultural Empowerment Programme for 2026. This initiative is seen as a pivotal step toward enhancing food security and fostering economic growth in the state.

In a statement released by KACRAN’s National President, Khalil Mohammed Bello, the association highlighted Governor Buni’s remarkable commitment to agriculture since taking office on May 29, 2019. Buni’s administration has prioritized agricultural development, leading to Yobe becoming one of Nigeria’s leading food-producing states.

Following his inauguration, Governor Buni convened an Agricultural Summit and set up a committee led by Professor Abba Gambo, which provided critical recommendations that shaped state agricultural policies. The association noted that significant budgetary allocations to the Yobe State Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources have allowed for the procurement of vital farming inputs, including tractors and fertilizers, which are now available to farmers at subsidized rates.

KACRAN also extended its commendations to Hon. Ali Mustapha Goniri, the newly appointed Commissioner of Agriculture and Natural Resources, recognizing his dedication and effective leadership in implementing government programs aimed at benefiting local farmers and herders.

With over 70% of Yobe’s population reliant on agriculture, KACRAN emphasized the importance of the state’s strategies in supplying food not only within the region but also to neighboring states and the Niger Republic. They specifically noted the recent reduction of tractor hiring fees from ₦100,000 to ₦50,000 per day, making agricultural mechanization more accessible to smallholder farmers.

The association urged farmers in Yobe to increase their production efforts and offer food at affordable prices in response to the government’s initiatives. Furthermore, KACRAN called on federal and state governments nationwide to adopt a similar investment model to bolster agriculture, ensuring national food security and economic development.

In closing, Hon. Khalil Mohd Bello expressed confidence in Governor Buni’s administration, highlighting it as an example of effective governance that delivers essential services to the people.
