The Vice-Chancellor of Yobe State University (YSU), Professor Muhammad Bashir Tahir, has said that Governor Mai Mala Buni’s administration has continued to set the pace in human capital development through sustained investments in education and healthcare, describing the governor as a leader whose policies have significantly strengthened both sectors in Yobe State.
Professor Tahir made the remarks while commending Governor Buni for approving the full implementation of the 2025 Federal Government/Academic Staff Union of Universities (FGN/ASUU) Agreement, including the payment of all outstanding arrears to academic staff.
He described the governor’s approval as a bold and historic decision that underscores his unwavering commitment to the welfare of university staff and the continued advancement of higher education in the state.
According to the Vice-Chancellor, the implementation of the agreement will not only improve the welfare and morale of academic staff but will also enhance teaching, research, innovation, and overall institutional productivity across Yobe State-owned tertiary institutions.
Professor Tahir noted that Governor Buni has consistently demonstrated that education remains a cornerstone of his administration through strategic investments in modern infrastructure, staff development, research support, scholarship programmes, and policies aimed at improving the quality of teaching and learning.
“The approval of the full implementation of the FGN/ASUU Agreement, along with the payment of all outstanding arrears, is a clear demonstration of Governor Mai Mala Buni’s visionary leadership and genuine commitment to the growth of higher education. This landmark decision will have a lasting positive impact on our university and the future of education in Yobe State,” he said.
The Vice-Chancellor further described Governor Buni as the foremost champion of education and healthcare, noting that the administration has recorded remarkable milestones in both sectors through sustained investments in infrastructure, institutional reforms, manpower development, and improved service delivery.
He observed that Yobe State University has experienced unprecedented growth under the Buni administration, with the provision of modern academic facilities, improved learning infrastructure, expanded staff development opportunities, and policies that continue to promote academic excellence.
Professor Tahir added that the implementation of the FGN/ASUU Agreement would help retain highly qualified academics, reduce brain drain, encourage innovation, and strengthen the university’s competitiveness among tertiary institutions in Nigeria.
He assured Governor Buni that the university management and staff would continue to justify the government’s confidence by remaining committed to excellence in teaching, research, innovation, and community service.
The Vice-Chancellor also prayed for Allah’s continued guidance, wisdom, and good health for Governor Buni as he continues to provide purposeful leadership and implement people-centred policies that improve the lives of the people of Yobe State.
He reaffirmed Yobe State University’s commitment to supporting the administration’s vision of building a globally competitive higher education system capable of producing the skilled manpower required for sustainable development.
