The French Football Federation on Tuesday appointed Zinedine Zidane as head coach of the national team, replacing Didier Deschamps after his 14-year tenure.
Federation President Philippe Diallo said Zidane was appointed following consultations with the executive committee and signed a four-year contract that will take effect on August 1.
The 54-year-old former France international will take charge in September, with his first match scheduled against Türkiye in the UEFA Nations League on September 25.
Speaking after his appointment, Zidane said he had rejected all coaching offers over the past five years because managing France was “the only thing” he wanted to do and “a dream.”
Zidane succeeds Deschamps, who led France from 2012, guiding the team to the 2018 FIFA World Cup title, the 2022 World Cup final, the 2026 World Cup semifinals and the UEFA Euro 2016 final.
