2027: Abia APC forgives Kalu, Nkwonta for backing Otti for second term
The Abia State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, says it has forgiven Abia South senator, Orji Uzor Kalu, and the member representing Ukwa East/Ukwa West Federal constituency, Chris Nkwonta, for supporting the candidacy of Governor Alex Otti of the Labour Party in 2027.
The Abia APC, which held a stakeholders post-primary reconciliation meeting at the party secretariat in Umuahia on Sunday, however warned the federal lawmakers against making any statement inimical to the progress of the party.
The motion to forgive Kalu, Nkwonta and others was moved by Uzor Azubuike, the House of Representatives candidate for Aba North and Aba South Federal Constituency.
The motion was seconded by Emmanuel Ndubuisi, the member representing Bende South Federal Constituency, while a voice vote echoed by members of the party at the meeting ratified the declaration of grace and mercy for Kalu and other party members.
Explaining the forgiveness to party members, the Chairman of the APC in Abia State, Chijioke Chukwu, said Kalu, Nkwonta and other aggrieved members of the party had privately reached out to explain the issues that made them to make pro-Otti remarks.
He however warned that the decision to forgive the party members should not be taken for granted, saying that any further anti-party remarks would attract heavy sanctions.
According to the Abia APC chairman, there was a need for the party to be united and focused to be able to sack the ruling Labour Party in Abia.
Chukwu also used the occasion to announce that the unauthorized suspension of some APC ward leaders in some local government areas have been nullified.
