Senate President Godswill Akpabio has assured Nigerians that preparations for the 2027 elections will not stop members of the National Assembly from performing their legislative duties.
Akpabio spoke with journalists at the presidential wing of Victor Attah International Airport in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
His comments came after he attended a meeting of All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders in Akwa Ibom North-West Senatorial District, where he, President Bola Tinubu and Governor Umo Eno were endorsed to seek re-election in 2027.
According to a statement by Akpabio’s Special Assistant on Media, Jackson Udom, the Senate President said election campaigns and legislative work could be managed without one affecting the other.
“We are elected for four years, and we are going to work for four years. Anybody that is walking on the tiny rope must be able to do the balancing act,” Akpabio said.
He added, “We are politicians, and campaigns will start very soon. Campaigns can be fixed in the afternoon or evening while we do our work in the morning.”
Akpabio said lawmakers belong to different political parties, meaning they would not all be attending campaigns at the same time.
“We will continue to make laws to take care of the needs of the people. It has never affected the work of the parliament,” Akpabio added.
