Police in Kwara State have arrested and charged the father and stepmother of a 12 year old girl.
They allegedly burnt her buttocks with a hot coal pot and beat her with electrical wire.
The punishment came after she lost N100 while selling soya beans for her stepmother.
Police Commissioner Ojo Adekimi gave the update in Ilorin on Tuesday.
The case came to light on September 30, when a resident of the Idigba area of Adewole saw the girl buying GV solution from a chemist at about 9.26pm.
He asked why she was out so late, and she told him what had happened.
Police named the suspects as Babatunde Mustapha, her biological father, Abdulrahman Aisat, her stepmother, and Bashirat Abdulfatai, a neighbour.
The wire and the coal pot have been listed as exhibits.
The case was moved to the State Criminal Investigation Department on October 9, then referred to the Anti Human Trafficking, Women and Children Protection Unit.
All three have been arraigned and remanded at the Oke Kura Correctional Facility.
Separately, police announced arrests over grave exhumations and the removal of human heads, the recovery of suspected human body parts, the machete killing of a 65 year old man and a motorcycle theft syndicate.
