Almost one year after returning to Nollywood with an emotional message about surviving breast cancer, actress Temitope Osoba has died.
Actor Alesh Sanni announced on Wednesday via Instagram that she was gone. Nollywood is grieving, and tributes have been pouring in from colleagues and fans online.
The cause of her death had not been made public at the time this report was filed.

The news has drawn attention to the remarkable comeback Osoba made after battling cancer.

Born and raised in Lagos State, Osoba studied Business Education at Olabisi Onabanjo University in Ogun State. Reports said she joined Nollywood around 2005 and had said in interviews that acting came into her life unexpectedly.
She became widely known after appearing in Oogun Mi, a Yoruba film produced by actress Dayo Amusa.
Over nearly two decades, she built her career in Yoruba language movies and featured in films including Gucci Girls, Igboro Ti Daru, Omo Tee and Twinny Mi. She also moved into film production with her own movie, Single Ladies.
A return that inspired many
Osoba had spent years battling breast cancer before telling the public about her recovery.
About two years before her death, she spoke about the illness and asked for financial help for treatment.
During that period, Nollywood stars, including Iyabo Ojo, appealed for support on her behalf.
On 4 August, 2025, she posted a video on Instagram to announce that she was returning to the movie industry. The message marked a new beginning after surviving cancer.
She wrote, “Dear beloved fans, supporters, and loved ones, I’m Temitope Osoba, and after my cancer experience, I’m excited to announce my reintroduction.
This journey has been a turning point, leading to my rebranding, reshaping, and rebuilding. I’m emerging stronger, more resilient, and more passionate about sharing my story and inspiring others.”
In the same message, she said the next stage of her life would focus on healing and growth. She also thanked her supporters and management team for standing by her during her illness.
Her death came almost exactly one year after that announcement, making her comeback message one of the memories many people shared as news of her passing spread online.
More than an actress
While Osoba was known for her work on screen, she also used her personal experience to speak about the difficulties many actors face when dealing with serious illnesses.
After recovering from cancer, she talked about the financial burden that often comes with treatment.
She also promised to use her platform to support cancer awareness and encourage others facing similar health battles.
