The legal battle over the 2027 governorship ticket of the Accord Party in Oyo State has continued, with the court hearing the leadership dispute adjourning the case to September 30.
The case centres on the controversy surrounding the candidacy of popular broadcaster, Oriyomi Hamzat, whose emergence as the Accord governorship candidate is being challenged by a faction of the party in Oyo State.
Speaking with journalists after the court proceedings, the National Secretary of the Accord Party, Abiola Adebukola Ajaja, described the development as painful and disappointing.
Ajaja said he considered the situation a betrayal of the goodwill extended to those involved in the matter.
“It is a very sad thing to realise you are stabbed at the back after goodwill done to them. I will describe the situation as a wrong choice. It is a very bad thing,” he said.
The Accord National Secretary said he was personally saddened by the development, adding that many party members who had believed Hamzat had electoral value were also disappointed.
“Personally, I feel sad about it. In fact, a lot of people who believed he has electoral value feel sad about it, not knowing he’s just putting up a charade. The whole party feel bad about it,” Ajaja said.
The dispute is linked to an internal crisis within the Accord Party in Oyo State, particularly over the party’s leadership and the process that produced its governorship candidate for the 2027 election.
The latest court development has prolonged the uncertainty surrounding the party’s governorship ticket as the contending sides continue their legal battle.
The matter has now been adjourned until September 30 for further proceedings.
