ALGON chairman arrested with loaded pistol in Kano gunrunning probe

The Kano State Police Command has arrested Hon. Muhammad Dahiru, identified in a police report as the ALGON Chairman in Kebbi State, alongside three others over alleged gunrunning and unlawful possession of prohibited firearms and ammunition.
According to security analyst Zagazola Makama, the arrests followed an investigation into a case initially reported at Dorayi Babba Division on August 13, 2026.
The case involved allegations of criminal conspiracy and unlawful possession of prohibited firearms and ammunition before it was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department and later referred to the Anti-Kidnapping Squad.
Makama said an intensified investigation by the squad led to Dahiru’s arrest. Officers allegedly recovered a silver-coloured pistol loaded with five rounds of live ammunition from him.
Another suspect, identified as 66-year-old Rabi’u Ahmed Kanti from Bichi Local Government Area, was also arrested with a pistol allegedly loaded with 12 rounds of live ammunition.
Further investigation reportedly led to the arrest of two suspected gunrunners identified as Abdulmalik, 55, of Bechi village in Ungogo LGA, and Armaya’u Lawal, 37, also known as “Agwada,” of Ring Road, Gwale LGA.
“The investigation is ongoing, while efforts are being intensified to identify, trace and apprehend other suspects connected with the case,” Makama said.
