The All Progressives Congress (APC) has commenced a statewide free medical and surgical outreach across Taraba State to celebrate the 58th birthday of its National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda Goshwe, with thousands of residents expected to benefit from comprehensive healthcare services.
The humanitarian intervention, organised under the party’s Renewed Hope agenda, is aimed at providing free, quality medical care to underserved communities while supporting government efforts to improve healthcare delivery across the state.
The outreach covers consultations, specialist medical care, surgical procedures, laboratory investigations, free medications, eye examinations and treatment, distribution of prescription glasses, maternal and child healthcare, hypertension and diabetes screening, health education, and treatment for various common and chronic illnesses.
Medical personnel, including consultants, medical doctors, surgeons, nurses, pharmacists, laboratory scientists, optometrists and other healthcare professionals, have been deployed to designated centres across Taraba’s 16 local government areas to attend to beneficiaries at no cost.
Speaking during the inauguration of the programme, APC leaders said the outreach was conceived as a people-focused initiative that reflects Professor Yilwatda’s commitment to humanitarian service and inclusive development.
They described the National Chairman as a leader who has consistently championed policies and programmes that improve the lives of ordinary Nigerians, adding that the birthday celebration was deliberately designed to prioritise service to humanity rather than ceremonial activities.
According to the organisers, the outreach seeks to bridge healthcare gaps by bringing essential medical services closer to rural and vulnerable populations who often lack access to affordable healthcare.
They noted that many residents would receive life-changing surgical interventions, including minor and major operations, alongside specialist consultations and follow-up care without paying any fees.
The party said all medications, laboratory tests and surgeries under the programme would be provided free of charge, while patients requiring further medical attention would be appropriately referred for continued treatment.
Residents from different communities have been encouraged to visit the designated medical centres early to take advantage of the exercise, which is expected to run simultaneously across the state.
The organisers stressed that the initiative demonstrates the APC’s commitment to compassionate leadership and community development, adding that healthcare remains a critical pillar of the Renewed Hope agenda.
They further explained that beyond commemorating Professor Yilwatda’s 58th birthday, the outreach is intended to deliver tangible benefits to citizens by reducing the burden of healthcare costs and improving access to essential medical services.
The organisers said the free medical mission is one of several activities lined up to mark the APC National Chairman’s birthday, underscoring the party’s emphasis on humanitarian service, social intervention and people-centred governance.
