August 15: PDP National Treasurer Cautions Osun Politicians Against Inciting Statements
The National Treasurer of the Peoples Democratic Party, Prince Diran Odeyemi, has called on political actors in Osun State to desist from making incendiary and violent statements capable of causing chaos ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.
Addressing journalists in Osogbo on Wednesday, the Ibokun-born politician expressed concern over the rising tension in the state and viral videos showing threats against members of rival political parties.
Odeyemi said politics and political ambitions are not worth the life of any individual, noting that inciteful utterances could undermine peace and the democratic process in Osun.
“Politics should be about ideas, service to the people and development. It should never be about threats, intimidation or violence. No political ambition is worth the blood of any citizen of Osun State,” Odeyemi said.
The PDP chieftain noted that the Nigerian Constitution guarantees every Nigerian the right to associate, campaign and vote for the candidate of their choice without fear, adding that the electorate should be allowed to vote for whoever they want.

“We are in a democratic dispensation, and people are free to vote for whoever they want to lead them. Nobody has the right to compel, harass or intimidate anyone to vote,” he said.
Odeyemi said all stakeholders must work together to ensure that the August 15 election is conducted in an atmosphere free from violence and voter intimidation.
He also urged the police and other statutory agencies to continue to discharge their duties professionally and without interference.
Odeyemi, who described the PDP as a party of peace, urged members of the party in the state to come out en masse to cast their votes for their preferred candidate.
“Osun is bigger than any individual or political party. Let us vote peacefully on August 15 and allow the will of the people to prevail,” he said.
