National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Senator David Mark, has charged the party’s governorship candidates to shun hate speech, ethnic and religious profiling, as well as empty promises as they commence campaigns for the 2027 general elections.
Mark gave the charge on Monday in Abuja at a consultation meeting with the party’s governorship candidates from across the country.
He urged the candidates to ensure that promises made during their campaigns were realistic and achievable, warning that making commitments they had no intention of fulfilling could undermine the integrity of the party.
“We are ADC. Our campaign must reflect the kind of country that we would like to build. Avoid hate speech, ethnic or religious profiling. We cannot be associated with violence in whatever form.
“Unlike the ruling party and the President, ADC does not believe that all is fair in politics,” he said.
The ADC chairman also directed the candidates to familiarise themselves with the party’s Governance and Ethical Principles contained in its “Orange Book”, as well as its manifesto, to ensure that their campaigns reflected the values and policies of the party.
The governorship candidates, in their separate remarks, expressed appreciation to the party for providing them with the platform to contest the 2027 elections.
They also welcomed the decision of the party and its presidential candidate to make the reduction of the cost of living a major plank of the ADC’s campaign.
The candidates particularly highlighted the party’s position on fuel subsidy, saying the policy was aimed at reducing the cost of petrol and easing the economic burden on Nigerians.
They pledged their loyalty to the party and expressed confidence that they would win their respective governorship elections.
