Benue attack: 22 bodies recovered from Ukum communities — Lawmaker

A member of the House of Representatives, representing the Logo-Ukum-Katsina Ala Federal Constituency, Solomon Wombo, has disclosed that 22 bodies have so far been recovered following an attack on Mbaterem communities in Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State.

The attack occurred at about 5 am on Sunday when armed herdsmen reportedly invaded Ayaba, Ukpen, Bom, Abaoajio and Yina communities, killing several residents and injuring others.

Wombo, in a statement, described the killings as inhuman, unjustifiable and unacceptable, while condemning the violence against the affected communities.

The lawmaker called on relevant authorities to identify and arrest those behind the attack and ensure that they face justice.

He also appealed to residents to remain calm, vigilant and law-abiding, urging them not to engage in retaliatory attacks.

According to him, resorting to reprisal violence would only result in more deaths and worsen the cycle of bloodshed.

“We must pursue justice through lawful and legitimate means,” he advised.

Wombo expressed his condolences to the families of those killed and the affected communities, while sympathising with residents who sustained injuries or were displaced by the attack.
