The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Borno State chapter, has called on churches in the state to embark on a three-day fasting and prayers for the freedom of 78 Schoolchildren from Askira-Uba, who were abducted by Boko Haram terrorists over two months ago from their schools in Askira-Uba local government area of the state.
The Christian body said it is also embarking on the fasting and prayers for the freedom of captives abducted in Ngoshe in Gwoza local government area and those abducted along Biu-Buratai Road while heading to Maiduguri in April this year.
A statement issued by the secretary of CAN in the State, Senior Apostle Joshua Akeredolu Michael, which was obtained by our correspondent on Saturday in Maiduguri, said the state CAN under the Leadership of Most Rev (Dr) John Bogna Bakeni has declared a 3-day fasting and prayers for the safe return of brethren and children who were kidnapped in Mussa, Lassa in Askira-Uba, Ngoshe, Biu-Buratai Road, and other kidnapped victims across the state.
The CAN secretary noted that this call has become necessary for all Christians in the State to come and seek the face of God, because their kidnapped brethren are still living in dens of their abductors.
He added that the 3 days fasting and prayers shall commence next week Friday 14th-Sunday 16th August, 2026, saying that each church is to meet in their respective local Church and end the prayer during church services on Sunday.
“All Church leaders are urged to encourage members to key into this fasting and prayers, as we serve a living God that answers prayers.
“We also, call on the relevant security agencies, the State and Federal Government to intensify efforts towards the safe release of all kidnapped victims within theState.
“It’s our earnest prayer that as we pray, God in His infinite mercy shall deliver all kidnapped victims in the State and Nation at large,” the CAN scribe stated.
