Catholic Priest Shares Story of Grandfather Who Confessed to Abusing His Young Granddaughters

A Nigerian Catholic priest, Fr. Evaristus Bassey, has shared the disturbing story of a grandfather who reportedly confessed to sexually abusing his two young granddaughters years earlier.

The priest shared the story on X, explaining that the man’s only daughter had left her job and spent more than a year caring for her elderly and sick father.

According to Fr. Bassey, the elderly man believed he was close to death and decided to ask his daughter for forgiveness.

He reportedly confessed that more than 10 years earlier, he had sexually abused his two granddaughters, who were only about 10 and 8 years old at the time.

The revelation reportedly left the woman devastated. The priest said she was shocked, deeply disappointed and distressed by the confession and began thinking about how she could seek revenge.

He said she even wished her father were strong enough to be handed over to the police, but her religious beliefs stopped her from taking such action.

The woman reportedly kept asking how a grandfather could abuse his own grandchildren.

According to the priest, she later remembered that her older daughter had tried to tell her something years earlier, but she had been unable to imagine that such abuse could have happened and therefore did not pay enough attention at the time.

The realisation reportedly left the woman overwhelmed with guilt and emotional pain.

Fr. Bassey used the story to highlight the lasting impact of trauma, noting that while physical pain may eventually end, emotional and psychological pain can remain for a lifetime.
