Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has claimed that his uncle, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, is leading the governorship election as results from polling units continue to emerge across the state.
Davido made the claim in a series of social media posts on Saturday evening, while officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) were sorting and counting ballots after voting ended.
The singer also claimed that the All Progressives Congress (APC) lost the polling ward of former Osun State Governor, Bisi Akande, as he celebrated what he described as an emerging victory for Adeleke.
Davido said, “Their group chat don scatter! Baba Akande lost his ward. Gov Adeleke is cruising to victory. Shame APC. Osun no be Edo!”

In another post, the singer called on residents to stay alert through the night and alleged that former Governor Gboyega Oyetola had plans that could affect the outcome of the exercise.
He said, “I implore Osun people to stay vigilant all night and resist plans of Oyetola. Na we get Osogbo! Imole ti woleeeee.”
Davido also called for security personnel to continue guarding electoral locations during the collation process for anything could happen within last few minutes of the electoral exercise.
“We are winning, guys! Security agencies shouldn’t be withdrawn from electoral units,” he posted.
These comments of his came as the election entered its crucial results phase, with INEC uploading polling-unit figures to its Result Viewing Portal, IReV.
As of 5:51 p.m., results from 1,695 of the 3,763 polling units had been uploaded, according to a check of the portal cited in the report.
Adeleke had earlier expressed confidence in victory after voting at Sagba Abogunde Ward 2, Unit 9, in Ede North Local Government Area.
His main opponent, APC candidate Bola Oyebamiji, also predicted victory after casting his ballot at Ward 09, Unit 011, Ikire, in Irewole Local Government Area.
ADC candidate Najeem Salaam, meanwhile, raised concerns over alleged non-recognition of his party agents in several parts of the state.
Despite the claims from the competing camps, INEC had not declared a winner as of the time of filing the report. The final result will depend on the official collation of figures from the 30 local government areas.
