A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dele Momodu, said President Bola Tinubu can still win the 2027 presidential election if he convinces Nigerians with the record of his administration, insisting that public judgment will rest on performance, not personal feelings.
Momodu made the remarks on Monday during Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily, where he said the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) should focus on showing what it has achieved instead of defending itself with political rhetoric.
Politics is heating up ahead of 2027. Parties and leading figures are laying out their positions early, and Momodu’s remarks have put the focus squarely on how the country is governed, just as the campaign to win voters over kicks off.
Performance should decide 2027
Momodu said Tinubu’s re election bid would not be difficult if the President presents clear evidence of what his government has achieved since taking office.
“The 2027 election will not be difficult for Tinubu if he can show the records of his performance. Nobody hates him personally. Nobody wants to pick him out because they just don’t like him. It is about performance. Present your scorecards. So the people running around spreading hellfire, calm down and spread that energy on showing the performance of APC,” he said.

He maintained that Nigerians would decide their votes after examining the work of the APC administration.
Momodu also criticised the ruling party over its explanation for the country’s economic and governance challenges. He said the APC has continued to blame the previous federal administration, even though it belongs to the same political party.
“What we see is APC abusing itself and its predecessors, saying they inherited a useless government and economy. I have never seen a place where a party destroys its own predecessors like APC,” he said.
He questioned what Tinubu had done differently since assuming office.
“Now, let’s assume President Tinubu inherited a bad government. What has he done to change the direction of his predecessor and change the lives of the people?” he asked.
Momodu comments on Atiku and Obasanjo
During the television programme, Momodu also spoke about the disagreement between former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former President Olusegun Obasanjo.
Obasanjo had earlier said choosing Atiku as his vice president was the greatest mistake of his political career.
Reacting to that remark, Momodu claimed that the former president does not want Atiku to realise his ambition of becoming Nigeria’s president.
The comments were made months before Nigerians head to the polls for the 2027 presidential election.
Momodu is an ally of Atiku, who is among the politicians contesting for the country’s highest office. Peter Obi of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) is also on the ballot for the election.
His comments placed the contest on the issue of governance, saying voters should assess the record of the Tinubu administration before deciding who should lead th e country after the 2027 election.
