The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State has endorsed President Bola Tinubu and Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for second terms in office in 2027. The endorsement came during the APC Delta North Stakeholders’ Meeting held in Asaba on Friday, where party leaders also discussed how to prepare for the coming elections.
The motion to endorse both men was moved by the APC House of Representatives candidate for Aniocha/Oshimili Federal Constituency, Rt. Hon. Ndudi Elumelu, and seconded by Frank Esenwa. Stakeholders at the meeting adopted the motion without objection.
The gathering brought together senior figures in the party, including Delta State Deputy Governor Sir Monday Onyeme, former Governor Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, Delta State APC Chairman Chief Solomon Areyenka, and Delta North Chairman Mr Dan Ossai.
Onyeme also spoke about President Tinubu’s plans for state police, an arrangement that would let each state run its own police force alongside the Nigeria Police Force. He said the federal police alone cannot cover every part of the country because of its size and population.
“We need state police because the federal police cannot reach all the nooks and crannies,” Onyeme said. “Today, it is becoming a reality. Who made that possible? President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”

He said state police would help governments act faster when security threats come up, working alongside the Nigeria Police Force rather than taking its place.
Okowa backed this idea too, calling it a major step forward for how the country handles security. He said the plan for state police had been talked about since the year 2000, but past governments never carried it out.
He said state police should support the Nigeria Police Force, not take over from it, and that giving states a bigger say in policing would help them handle problems in their own communities.
Leaders told to reconcile members
Alongside the endorsement, Onyeme asked party leaders to reach out to members who lost during the party’s primaries and to those who felt left out of the party. He said the APC cannot achieve its goals in Delta State without the support of every single member.
He asked leaders to set aside personal differences, make peace with unhappy members, and give everyone something to do in the campaign ahead of 2027.
“We must work together,” Onyeme said.
“Those who contested and did not win should not be abandoned. We must reach out to them and make them understand that there is a place for everybody in the party.”
He said the party cannot afford to be divided among itself while getting ready for another big election.
Okowa also asked APC leaders to work harder on bringing the party back together and to build stronger ties with voters ahead of 2027. He told members not to stop at political meetings alone, but to visit communities directly and speak with cultural groups and other local organisations.
“The work ahead is at the grassroots,” Okowa said.
“We must go back to our communities, engage the people and rebuild confidence in the party.”
The meeting called for unity, community-level campaigning and internal peace, as the APC in Delta State begins putting its plans together for the 2027 general elections.
