- Governor Monday Okpebholo has approved the appointment of 4,800 Special Assistants across Edo State’s 192 wards, with each ward expected to have 25 SAs.

- The announcement has, however, sparked criticism and debate among Nigerians online.
Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo has approved the appointment of 4,800 Special Assistants (SAs) across the state’s 192 wards.
The governor announced the development on Monday, August 10, 2026, during a meeting with members and leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from the state’s 18 local government areas.
The appointments will see 25 Special Assistants assigned to each of the 192 wards across Edo State.
Okpebholo said the appointments were part of efforts to strengthen grassroots governance and recognise the contributions of party members who worked towards the APC’s victory in the state.
“Appointing 4,800 SAs is not an issue at all because we all worked for this victory. The victory does not belong to Okpebholo alone,” the governor said.
The announcement has generated mixed reactions on social media, with some Nigerians questioning the purpose and scale of the appointments while others linked the move to political considerations.
