A fire incident on Sunday rocked Terminal 2 of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos, triggering an immediate emergency response from the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN).
The blaze, which broke out within the airport facility, prompted the swift deployment of FAAN’s Aerodrome Rescue and Firefighting Service (ARFFS), as authorities moved quickly to contain the situation and prevent escalation.
In an official statement shared via its X (formerly Twitter) account, FAAN confirmed the incident, assuring the public that emergency teams were already on ground managing the crisis.
“The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) wishes to inform the public that a fire incident has occurred at Terminal 2 of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos,” the statement read.
“The FAAN Aerodrome Rescue and Firefighting Service (ARFFS) is currently responding to the incident and working diligently to contain the situation.”
Reassuringly, FAAN disclosed that no casualties or loss of life had been recorded as of the time of reporting, easing fears of a potential disaster at one of Nigeria’s busiest aviation hubs.
However, the authority has yet to reveal the cause of the fire, the extent of the damage, or the specific section of Terminal 2 affected, leaving several questions unanswered.
