At least four people were killed and eight others injured following an attack by suspected bandits on Abanshwa community in the Nzorov District of Guma Local Government Area, Benue State.
The community, which is the hometown of former Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom, was reportedly attacked on Tuesday night when the assailants entered the village and opened fire on residents.
According to local accounts, four people were killed during the attack, while eight others sustained injuries. The deceased have been evacuated to a mortuary, and the injured are receiving medical treatment.The Benue State Police Command confirmed the incident.
In a statement, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Orchia Peter Aondona, speaking on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, CP Cletus Nwadiogbu, said four people were killed in the attack. “I can confirm that there was an attack in Guma where four persons were killed by suspected bandits. Investigation is ongoing to bring the culprits to book,” the statement said.
The latest attack adds to ongoing security concerns in parts of Benue State, where communities have experienced repeated incidents of armed violence in recent months.
