Taraba State Governor Agbu Kefas has pledged his administration’s full support for the establishment of the proposed 10 Division of the Nigerian Army in Jalingo, describing the initiative as a major step toward improving security and promoting economic development in the North-East.
Kefas made the pledge while receiving members of the Nigerian Army ORBAT 2023 Review Committee, led by the Chief of Army Standards and Evaluation, Major General B.T. Ugiagbe, during a courtesy visit in Abuja.
The governor said the proposed division would strengthen the military’s operational capacity in Taraba and neighbouring Adamawa State, citing the state’s extensive border with Cameroon and security challenges in some border communities. He identified Kurmi, Takum, Gashaka and Sardauna local government areas as strategic border locations where enhanced military presence would help address security concerns and protect lives and property.
Kefas commended President Bola Tinubu and the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, for approving the proposed division. He assured the Nigerian Army of the state’s readiness to provide land and other logistical support for its establishment.
According to the governor, the new military formation is also expected to stimulate economic activity, attract investment, create jobs and improve infrastructure in Taraba and neighbouring states.
Earlier, Major General Ugiagbe said the proposed 10 Division would oversee military operations in Taraba and Adamawa states, with the aim of strengthening command and control and improving operational effectiveness against evolving security threats. He added that the visit was part of ongoing consultations ahead of the planned operationalisation of the division.
