A Nigerian NHS worker in Manchester, United Kingdom, Innocent Ayodele, is facing a possible driving ban after he was caught driving against the flow of traffic while attempting to avoid a traffic jam.
Ayodele was stopped after driving the wrong way along an entry slip road to the M61. He reportedly told police that he was trying to get home to his pregnant wife after finishing work.
However, the police officer who confronted him described the manoeuvre as dangerous and warned that Ayodele could have collided with a vehicle travelling in the opposite direction.
The case was heard at Preston Magistrates’ Court, where Ayodele apologised for his actions.
He already has nine penalty points on his driving licence and could be disqualified from driving when he returns to court for sentencing.
The incident has sparked reactions online, with many Nigerians comparing his actions in the UK to the kind of traffic manoeuvres often associated with Nigerian roads.
