How To Defeat Tinubu In 2027 — Kenneth Okonkwo

A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Kenneth Okonkwo, has said President Bola Tinubu can only be defeated in the 2027 presidential election if opposition politicians unite rather than contesting against him separately.

Okonkwo made the remark in a video shared on X while discussing the political strategy needed to unseat Tinubu in the 2027 election.

He specifically warned former Anambra State Governor and NDC presidential candidate Peter Obi, against attempting to confront Tinubu alone, describing Tinubu as a politician who is deeply committed to retaining political power.

According to Okonkwo, Tinubu had demonstrated his determination to secure power before becoming President, recalling comments attributed to him during the 2023 election campaign.

“Tinubu said in 2023, ‘Don’t serve power a la carte, you fight for it. You snatch it and run away with it.’ Before he became president, he achieved it,” Okonkwo said.

He added, “And now he is president and you want to go alone. If you go alone to contest against Tinubu, you will be disgraced alone.”

Okonkwo further described Tinubu as a formidable political opponent, saying, “That guy likes power like shark likes blood.”

He also recalled a statement Tinubu made before Catholic Bishops, where he said “all is fair in politics”, arguing that the President understands the nature of political contests and is prepared to deploy every available political strategy to retain power.

The remarks come against the backdrop of Okonkwo’s shift in political alignment ahead of the 2027 election. He has since moved into the ADC camp and was appointed spokesperson for former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar’s 2027 presidential campaign after Atiku emerged as the ADC presidential candidate.

Okonkwo had previously been a prominent supporter of Peter Obi and served as a spokesperson for his 2023 presidential campaign.
