Popular Nigerian food critic and social commentator, Opeyemi Famakin, has warned Nigerians to exercise caution when purchasing high-end body mists from vendors, particularly products being sold at unusually low prices.

While social media has made it easier for Nigerians to discover and purchase products, it can also make it difficult for consumers to determine whether a product is genuine immediately.

Famakin also expressed concern about the potential health implications of using questionable personal-care products.
He noted that while he regularly recommends products to his followers, he also considers it important to warn them about products he believes could potentially pose health risks.
“I share recommendations on products to buy, but I will also continue warning my followers about products I believe could pose potential health risks,” he said.
He particularly referenced concerns over products that could potentially have serious health consequences, including cancer-related risks.
However, claims linking a specific body mist or cosmetic product to cancer should be independently verified through credible scientific and regulatory evidence before being treated as fact.
Consumers can take several precautions when purchasing body mists, perfumes and other cosmetic products.
First, buyers should check the seller’s reputation and consider purchasing directly from authorised retailers or verified distributors. Extremely large price differences between a product’s usual retail price and a vendor’s advertised price should also prompt additional verification.
Consumers should also examine packaging, product labels, batch information and other identifying details where applicable.
Most importantly, buyers should avoid using products that appear suspicious, have damaged packaging, lack proper product information or come from an unknown source.
