‘I Was Handcuffed, Beaten and Left Bleeding’ – Okatakyie Afrifa Speaks on Viral Arrest Video

Outspoken media personality and New Patriotic Party (NPP) member, Okatakyie Afrifa, has opened up about the circumstances surrounding a viral video that showed him handcuffed with blood visible on his body.

Speaking in an interview with Kwame Tanko on Lawson TV, Afrifa said he was arrested and allegedly subjected to mistreatment despite not committing any crime.

“If you saw that I was handcuffed and blood trickling through my body, I didn’t steal, kill anyone, or commit any crime,” he said.

According to Afrifa, his arrest was linked to his advocacy for the people of Sekyere, a community he claims continues to face oppression despite Ghana’s independence.

He explained that he launched a campaign under the theme “Freedom for Sekyere”, saying his goal is to fight for what he described as the community’s liberation.

“The people of Sekyere are still colonized. So I, Okatakyie, have decided to ensure that the people of Sekyere gain their independence back,” he stated.

Recounting his ordeal, Afrifa alleged that he was arrested, assaulted, and detained without being informed of the reason for his arrest.

He further claimed that he was held in police custody from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. without food or water while bleeding from injuries he allegedly sustained during the arrest.

“I was kept in cells from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. with blood all over my body. I hadn’t eaten or taken water either,” he alleged.

Afrifa’s comments have reignited discussions online following the circulation of the video showing him in handcuffs, with many calling for clarity over the circumstances surrounding his arrest.
