“It Is Easier to Fight for Justice Through Him”- Dele Farotimi Reveals Why VDM Has Become So Influential in Nigeria

Human rights lawyer and activist Dele Farotimi has described social media activist VeryDarkMan as a reflection of the failures within Nigeria’s justice system, saying the society’s inability to provide a functional police and court system has created a space for activists like him to become influential.

Farotimi made the remark while discussing the growing influence of VeryDarkMan and the reasons Nigerians increasingly turn to him when seeking help with issues they believe have not received adequate attention from the authorities.

According to him, a properly functioning justice system would not need someone like VDM to take on cases that should ordinarily be handled through formal institutions.

“A society that has a functional police system and court will not tolerate the presence of VeryDarkMan. VDM is merely the image in your mirror. The society you have built requires VDM to fight for justice; it is easier to fight for justice through him than through the courts. VeryDarkMan is now the last hope of the common man in Nigeria,” Farotimi said.

His comments have sparked widespread reactions online, with some Nigerians agreeing that the popularity of VeryDarkMan is connected to public frustration with the justice system, while others argued that activists have always played an important role in society.
