The All Progressives Congress (APC) has been reduced to 37 members in the Kano State House of Assembly after Tudun Wada lawmaker, Sule Lawan Shuwaki, resigned from the party and joined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Shuwaki’s resignation letter was presented at Monday’s plenary by the Speaker of the Assembly, Rt. Hon. Ismail Falgore. His defection leaves the House with 37 APC members, two members of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) and one PDP member.
The lawmaker said he had decided to pursue a new political direction based on his personal convictions. He said the decision came after consultations with his political associates, supporters and family members.
Shuwaki also thanked APC leaders at ward, local government, state and national levels for the opportunities and support he received during his time in the party.
The Tudun Wada representative said he had joined the PDP several months ago, but consultations delayed the formal presentation of his resignation letter before the Assembly.
“I brought this letter to present it before the Assembly regarding my movement from the APC to the PDP,” he said.

The formal presentation now places Shuwaki among the opposition members in the 40-seat Assembly and leaves the PDP with one member.
