Kano Drug War: Muhuyi Leads Raids On Rimin Gado, Doka; 28 Arrested, 5 Joints Dislodged

KANO — The Kano State Multi-Agency Task Force on Drug Abuse and Other Related Crimes has arrested 28 suspects and dislodged five drug joints in a coordinated operation led by its Chairman, Muhuyi Magaji, in Rimin Gado and Doka communities.

The operation, conducted on Friday, August 7, 2026, also led to the recovery of assorted illicit substances, according to a statement issued by the task force and signed by its Committee Secretary and member, Ibrahim Garba Muhammad, PhD.

The task force said the operation covered Rimin Gado, headquarters of Rimin Gado Local Government Area, and Doka in Tofa Local Government Area, as part of an intensified campaign against drug abuse and illicit trafficking across the state.

Muhuyi said beginning the operation in his hometown was deliberate, describing it as a demonstration that the task force would apply the law impartially, irrespective of where violations occurred.

“We are treating every community equally and enforcing the law without bias. Our guiding principle is ‘Kano First,’ and we are determined to ensure a peaceful, prosperous and drug-free state in line with the vision of His Excellency, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf,” he said.

The chairman said the operation in Rimin Gado and Doka was only the beginning of a wider campaign that would extend beyond the Kano metropolis to all 44 local government areas.

He said the task force was combining direct enforcement with sustained investigations to dismantle criminal networks involved in the drug trade, adding that those found culpable would face prosecution in accordance with the law.

The task force said its strategy would go beyond arrests and the closure of drug joints, with greater emphasis also being placed on prevention, community engagement and rehabilitation.

It said it would work with community leaders, regulatory agencies, health services and educational institutions to raise awareness, tighten controls along the supply chain and expand support for people affected by substance abuse.

Muhuyi also distinguished illicit activities and legitimate commerce, stressing that lawful businesses were not the target of the campaign.

He said the objective was to protect honest traders and create an environment where businesses and communities could thrive without the corrosive effects of drug trafficking and abuse.

The task force appealed to residents to provide useful information on suspected drug trafficking and abuse, assuring that the crackdown would be sustained across the state.

It reiterated its commitment to professional enforcement and to protecting the health, safety and security of Kano residents.
