Konsa seals Arsenal move as Gunners reshape backline

Arsenal have added to their summer rebuild by confirming the arrival of England defender Ezri Konsa from Aston Villa on a long-term deal, the Premier League champions announced Friday.
The 28-year-old will wear the number 15 shirt at the Emirates.
The move follows closely on the heels of two other high-profile arrivals Tziol and Bruno Guimarães, both signed from Newcastle United to reinforce Arsenal’s midfield options.
In a message posted on the club’s official website, Arsenal said they were thrilled to land the England international, calling it a significant boost to their squad depth ahead of the new campaign.

Sporting Director Andrea Berta was full of praise for the new arrival, highlighting Konsa’s physical attributes, calm decision-making, and reading of the game as traits that have made him one of the Premier League’s most dependable defenders in recent years.
Berta noted that his flexibility comfortable both as a central defender and at right-back gives Arsenal added tactical options without compromising the defensive solidity the club is building its trophy push around.
“We welcome Ezri and his family to Arsenal,” Berta added, wrapping up the club’s statement.
Konsa’s football journey started at Charlton Athletic, where he debuted in 2016 and swiftly became known as one of the academy’s standout defensive talents. A two-year spell at The Valley set up his switch to Brentford in 2018, and it was his impressive form there during the 2018/19 season that caught Aston Villa’s attention, leading to his Premier League move in 2019.
Across seven years at Villa Park, Konsa racked up over 200 appearances in all competitions, growing into one of the league’s most trusted defensive options equally at home marshalling the back line centrally or filling in at full-back.
That club form translated to international recognition. Having progressed through England’s Under-20 and Under-21 setups, Konsa earned his first senior cap in 2023 and has gone on to become a regular England selection, appearing at both UEFA Euro 2024 and the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
