Lanre Shittu Motors Deepens Youth Empowerment Drive with Anti-Financial Crime Book Initiative

Lanre Shittu Motors (LSM) has reinforced its commitment to youth empowerment and crime prevention by launching a large-scale educational campaign aimed at discouraging financial crime among secondary school students in Lagos State through the distribution of a specially written anti-financial crime book.

The initiative, which forms part of the company’s corporate social responsibility programme, involves the donation of copies of Clean Hands, Bright Future: A Youth Guide to Avoiding Financial Crime in Africa to public secondary schools across the state, with the first phase targeting 200 schools.

Already, more than 150 schools have benefited from the exercise, which organisers say is designed to instil the values of honesty, integrity and responsible citizenship in young people before they are exposed to the growing influence of cybercrime and other forms of financial fraud.

The campaign commenced at Kuramo Senior College and Victoria Island Senior Secondary School before expanding to other public schools across Lagos.

Beyond distributing books, the programme seeks to educate students on the consequences of fraud, cybercrime, identity theft, examination malpractice and numerous other financial crimes, while encouraging them to embrace education, hard work and ethical leadership as pathways to success.

Author of the book, Mr Adedayo Aluko, said the project was conceived in response to the increasing involvement of young people in financial crimes across the country and the urgent need to address the problem through preventive education.

According to him, many young people are lured into criminal activities without fully understanding the legal, social and economic consequences of their actions.

He explained that the book presents more than 100 different forms of financial crime in simple language that secondary school students can easily understand.

Aluko said practical examples, illustrations and relatable scenarios were deliberately incorporated into the publication to make it more engaging and ensure that students could identify and avoid criminal behaviour in everyday life.

“The rate of financial crime among youths is becoming increasingly alarming. We believe education is one of the most effective tools to prevent crime. The message of the book is simple: crime does not pay, and with clean hands, every young person can build a brighter future,” he said.

He disclosed that the initiative would not end with the distribution of books, as plans were already in place to revisit participating schools for interactive sensitisation programmes, career talks and mentorship sessions aimed at reinforcing the lessons contained in the publication.

Aluko also praised Lanre Shittu Motors for supporting the project, describing the company’s Managing Director, Mr Taiwo Shittu, as a passionate advocate of youth development through education and skills acquisition.

He noted that during the launch of the programme, Shittu personally presented copies of the book to students and urged them to reject shortcuts to wealth in favour of education, vocational skills and honest labour.

Speaking on the company’s decision to sponsor the initiative, Shittu said Lanre Shittu Motors believes that the fight against financial crime should begin by shaping the character of young people.

He said investing in the moral development of students would help produce responsible citizens capable of contributing positively to national development.

According to him, integrity, education and hard work remain the pillars of lasting success, adding that businesses also have a responsibility to support initiatives that build stronger communities and discourage criminal behaviour.

Shittu further explained that the company’s culture of corporate social responsibility was inherited from its founder and his father, the late Alhaji Rasak Olanrewaju Shittu.

He said the late automotive icon built the organisation on the principles of compassion, service to humanity and giving back to society, values that continue to influence Lanre Shittu Motors’ investments in education, youth empowerment and community development.

Published in May 2026, Clean Hands, Bright Future has received the endorsement of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN), which recognises it as a practical guide for young people facing increasing social and economic pressures.

The ongoing distribution programme reflects the company’s determination to encourage a generation of young Nigerians to choose integrity over fraud and legitimate enterprise over criminality.

For years, Lanre Shittu Motors has complemented its educational interventions with practical youth empowerment programmes, providing internships, apprenticeship opportunities and technical training in automotive engineering, vehicle maintenance and related vocational fields.
