Makinde Appoints Rector, Principal Officers For Ibadan Poly
Oyo State governor, Seyi Makinde, has approved the appointment of Dr. Lasisi Taiwo Abideen as the substantive rector of The Polytechnic, Ibadan.
The governor also approved the appointment of other principal officers of the institution, including Dr. Olajide Taiwo Sherifat as Registrar, Mr. Adegbola Abiodun Kolawole as Bursar, and Mr. Osunrinade Olukunle Akinbola as Librarian.
The appointments were conveyed in an approval letter signed by Governor Makinde and announced in a statement issued by the Oyo State Commissioner for Information, Dotun Oyelade.
The Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Salihu Adelabu, who disclosed the appointments, said the process was conducted in line with due process and existing regulations guiding the appointment of principal officers in state-owned tertiary institutions.
Adelabu explained that the selection process began with the public advertisement of the vacant positions in national newspapers, followed by the screening and interview of qualified candidates by the institution’s Governing Council, chaired by Professor Lanre Nassar.
He said the newly appointed officers would officially assume duties from July 31, 2026, and would serve a single five-year tenure.
The commissioner congratulated the appointees, urging them to provide purposeful leadership that would promote academic excellence, strengthen institutional stability and drive the continued development of The Polytechnic, Ibadan.
The appointments mark the end of an extended period during which the key administrative positions of the institution had been occupied by acting officials.
