MTN Nigeria has cautioned subscribers against a growing wave of fraudulent 25GB anniversary giveaway offers; it warned that customers who follow unauthorised links risk surrendering personal information or losing money.
The telecommunications company, in a warning issued through its official support account on X on Saturday, specified that the genuine 25GB anniversary offer is available only through the MyMTN NG App and MTN eShop.
MTN urged subscribers to disregard websites, social media posts and other platforms purporting to offer the free data outside those channels.
The company said, “Please beware of fake MTN 25th Anniversary 25GB giveaway offers circulating online.”

It added that subscribers should not click on suspicious links, disclose personal information, or make payments to access offers presented as part of the anniversary promotion.
The company reiterated, “Only trust official MTN channels.”
The warning is indicative of the growing risk of fraudulent digital offers built around legitimate promotions, while scammers often use familiar corporate names and attractive incentives to lure unsuspecting customers.
For subscribers seeking to claim the actual anniversary bundle, MTN said the process begins with the MyMTN App, where eligible users can locate the anniversary banner and select “Redeem Now”.
The company also listed the MTN eShop as an authorised avenue for accessing the offer. Eligible subscribers are expected to follow the prompts provided on either platform before the bundle can be activated.
They further clarified that subscribers who received an SMS notification concerning the promotion could use the link contained in the message to access the offer.
The company, however, advised customers to exercise caution with links received through unofficial channels, particularly those directing them to platforms outside the MyMTN App and MTN eShop.
“Log in to the MyMTN App and tap ‘Redeem Now’ on the anniversary banner or via the MTN eShop,” MTN said while outlining the redemption procedure.
The telecommunications firm also noted that the 25GB bundle would remain available until 11:59pm on the stated expiry date, meaning eligible subscribers must redeem it within the applicable validity period.
The clarification comes amid the circulation of online messages and links claiming that subscribers can obtain 25GB of free data in celebration of MTN’s 25th anniversary.
They did not identify the operators behind the fraudulent offers or disclose how many subscribers may have encountered them. Its warning, however, specifically singled out requests for personal information and payments as red flags.
Subscribers have consequently been advised to verify promotional claims through MTN’s recognised communication channels before clicking links, submitting details or attempting to activate any anniversary-related data package.
The company’s position has been made clear: the 25GB offer is legitimate, but access to it is confined to MTN’s authorised platforms.
