‘My Daughter Has Sickle Cell Because of a Mistake I Made Due to Religion’ – Man Shares Regret

A Nigerian man has opened up about his family’s experience after his daughter was born with sickle cell disease, attributing the situation to a decision he and his wife made because of their religious beliefs.

The man explained that he and his wife were both aware that they had the AS genotype before getting married. Despite knowing the potential genetic risks, he said they chose to remain together and abstained from sexual relations for three years because of their religious convictions.

According to him, he believed that God would prevent them from having a child with sickle cell disease despite their genotype status.

However, after their daughter was born with the condition, he said he began to regret the decision and described the situation as a painful experience for his family.

“My daughter has sickle cell because of a foolish mistake I made due to religion,” he said.
